I have created and recreated the placeholders in Handout Master in the hopes
the header, page number and footer info I have input in the header and footer
section would show up when I print. I've even typed text directly into the
placeholders and it still doesn't show up.
Help!!!

Did you go to view, Header and Footer and make sure there is a checkmark in
the footer box?

Try these steps ...

View => Headers & Footers => select tab Notes & Handouts => check all the
boxes you want to be shown => Click on Apply to all

Did this allow them to be printed correctly?

Headers and Footers are one of those things that make me wonder if the people
who design MS applications actually use them. Adding a header PowerPoint
should be as easy as it is in Word. To go through the gyrations in layout is
stupid.

I have to say I agree. I've been frustrated with PPT's headers and footers
for a long time, and I think they've become even worse in PPT 2007.
