Hello,

I have just bought an Epson C44ux and after the original epson ink ran out I
used Printrite compatibles with no problem, I then bought a refill kit and
refilled them as per instructions, however I cannot now get the printer
working properly as I have white lines in my test pages. I have used 2
filled cartridges now in both Black and colour and still it isn't working
correctly, using the head cleaning facility just isn't working. The printer
is only 2 weeks old and I am thinking of taking it back to the store where I
purchased it but I am a little worried now in case they say my warranty is
void due to using non original cartridges (is my warranty void?) I dont
want to buy any original Epson cartridges now in case they wont work either
as they cost almost as much as the printer did. Is there anything else I can
try to solve my print head problem?

Thanks.

Yes you have voided the warranty by using compatible ink unfortunately

You could try pouring small quantities of a solvent such as Isopropyl
alcohol or surgical spirit onto the print heads and leaving it for a while.

Or possible the easiest is just to buy another printer.

The best think I have found to dissolve printer ink bar none is Fantastic or
409 type of cleaner. Its the only thing I found that completely cleans up
the ink and dissolves it. I have cleaned heads by letting them set in some
409 over night. Really stubborn heads I filled some cartages with 409 and
used the cleaning cycle. It has always worked for me. Spill some on the
floor and try alcohol or acetone, then try 409. Ink gone.

I am not sure this is correct. If it were true, it is unenforceable.
I dont want to
Go to Yahoo groups and search on Art Entlich. He gives a cleaning
manual to anyone who sends him private e-mail

I think you will find somewhere in the small print of the various
documentation that comes with a new printer that it will state that if you
use anything other than OEM inks during the warranty period and something
goes wrong because of this (such as a blocked print head) then the warranty
is in fact "void" for THAT repair and there isn't a great deal that can be
done.

When you say unenforceable - do mean that in law? If that is the case, if
you decide to take the issue to court to contest that point then that is
just blind stupidity to spend all that money when a new printer will
probably cost less the £100.

On the other hand, if YOU cause the fault by using inferior inks, then it is
not the fault of the printers manufacturers - or their responsibility to fix
it. That is down to the suppliers of the inferior so-called compatible ink
and I am sure somewhere in THEIR small print, they will say that they are
not responsible for any damage caused - and will probably warn you that this
could happen and say that it is YOUR decision alone to use the stuff.

I think you may be right on this clarification

My point on unenforceable is that one could put in OEM cartridges and
run a few cleaning cycles---how would anyone prove that there had been
non-OEM ink in the system.

All of this misses the main point---There are good 3rd party inks with
solid track records. Worrying about warranties is not really a good
reason for not saving money on ink. Keep in mind that warranties are
written to protect the seller, not the buyer.

3rd party ink is fine if it is good quality--no trouble with MIS ink,
for example.

Do you buy only Ford tires for your Ford??

I had the same problem with a C41ux..
they dont like third party ink!!

That should not be needed on a New Printer, just get some new Epson Inks and
use the Driver to clean the print head a large number of times, not the
button on the printer.

Filling Ink Tanks is just a big waste of time as you just can't vacuum fill
them..

But good 3rd party ink tanks should be ok..
