Posting for posterity.

System: Intel mobo, Intel 2.8ghz HT proc, 1 GB ram.

Had to rebuild for reasons multiple and various. Loaded XpSp2, intel
updates and all Xp patches. Made a fail-safe image of this config, and
then went to work on finding the right combination of ATI drivers. Had
to rebuild four times from the image to get it right.

Catalyst drivers used: 5.7
HDTV Wonder components used: June 2005 with one exception. Used the
January 2006 driver for the HDTV Wonder Drivers.

Installed in the proper order, but had to do a hard shutdown after
installing each component. Reboots were not working.

I only use the system for VHS captures and I like the MMC capture
configuration options, which seem very robust. Used the Jan '06
drivers for the hdtvwonder drivers because earlier drivers kept causing
the system to spontaneously reboot during hardware detection.

All in all, a real fkn PITA!

I have an AIW9600XT&HDTV Wonder on a P4 2.4GHZ Intel system. Used every MMC
from 9.01 to 9.15, changing Cats each time and sometimes without changing
MMC, and never had a reboot problem. Can't help but think its something to
do with the HT or your original config.

FWIW capture from the AIW is slightly better than the HDTV Wonder. Probably
not noticeable at all capturing VHS. The digital tuner more than makes up
for the difference in analog quality though.

Never thought about the HT being an issue - for that matter could have
something to do with the mobo. Regardless, hard resets are part of the
key to happy good times. One of the reasons I like the older MMC is
the capture options - they dropped video soap (or they moved it to
where I can't find it) and dumbed down the recording interface in later
revs - to the point of it not being pleasing to me. 9.15 and the
always on-demand thing really, really dorked up capture capability too.
Just relating in case anyone was wondering.

Having a card that requires it, Multview with an HDTV Wonder and possibly
Titan TV are the only reasons I can think of for going past 9.08
Good point about soap.
