Hello I have a 40GB hard Disk in my machine and a 10GB
spare...

Someone borrowed me there Hard Disk to get some Data off
as it was too big for E-Mail and they didnt have a CD
Writer.

So my Hard Disk is an ATA 100 5400 RPM my board supports
ATA 100... When I put in a 40GB ATA 133 7200RPM it wont
see it at all in windows...

I am running Windiws 98...

Many Thanks

James

Hi

You are posting to a wrong NG, here is for XP

An ATA133 Hdd is workable at the speed of ATA100 on a mobo that support ATA100

BTW, what kind of OS is installed on the new Hdd
If it is Win 95/98 or Win ME, remove your Hdd and install the new HDD as master
If it is XP, no way unless you use the original XP and perform a repair installation of XP
I would suggest you to ask your frined to buy a CD/RW drive, it is very cheap today, around $40.- or less

Pete

Put the drive in a pc that has XP as its OS then burn to a cd?.. give the
drive back to your friend and tell him to go buy a CDRW?.. tell your friend
to forget about the data?..
