i'm buying a new SATA HDD tomorrow
nod.gif
this will be my first SATA HDD.

any suggestions on manufacturer's?

ive always liked seagate.still got the 20GB HDD i bought with them years ago and still runs good.

which ones are good?? are WD's any good now???

Three drives which hold the market for me are and in order

1. Seagate
2. Maxtor
3. Western Digital (used to be the best on the market, alas no longer i'm afraid)

Problems are and i'm sure a lot would agree. Everyone on this planet has had and been stuck by all of these makes and so swears never to buy again from them no matter which they are. However I personally have not and will continue to use them. I'm even gonna expand and try the Samsung Spinpoints too soon.

Entirely upto you but IBM/HITACHI are not very good in my opinion

OH no I just said that out loud ;)

But having 5 ish drives in less than two years does that to you i'm afraid

Another good one, Maxtor.
I had the same 80 gig drive for.. oh coming up 3 years now and its never failed on me :D

Every gawd damn HD manufacturer has had failures, some more than others.

After 20 years of using them all, and some you never heard of, I'll quite happily continue using Maxtor.

TD, I suggest you edit your post before I do. Making a 'bold' statement like that is not in the forums best interest. Use a term like ... "in MY opinion" dont use an IBM as they were known to fail.

... ain't nothing wrong with Hitachi drives, they make some of the fastest drives on the market ... shame they kept using the name "Deathstar" in their branding. ;)
