I wonder if anyone is aware of a hard disk cleaner which will fit on a boot
floppy?
What I want to do is to overwrite everything on an old hard drive with
random binary before it gets donated to someone else's P.C.
This is probably overkill, as the new user is not at all forensically
inclined but you never know.

Or better yet,

http://dban.sourceforge.net/

On that page, there is a caveat about the program ver. 1.2 that should
be noted.

Also, there's a list of similar products at the bottom of the page,
most of them commercial but this one isn't:

The free version isn't US Department of Defense 5220.22 M compliant
and doesn't support Gutmann's algorithm, but the program can be loaded
on a floppy.
