Hi all,
I'm new to win2000 and am running Pro on one PC with no prob's the 'Hair
tearing out' bit has come through trying to set up a HDD to go in another
machine for a disabled member who helps with our Charity work.
It doesn't seem to like a win 98 formatted/ partitioned disk.
When done in win 2000 on the working machine it loads Perfectly, just won't
work when put in the new machine as the mobo etc are all different, it gets
as far as 'Loading Windows' then freezes!
Any Ideas how to get around it as I'm looking at using the BIG Hammer as
next option after swapping drives & plug in bits for the 7th or 8th time
this evening.
Being an 'Ancient Briton' as far as computing is concerned any help would be
much appreciated.
Tim.

Win2000 does not take kindly to running with different
hardware than the one it was installed on. Your fastest
option might be to do a clean installation, but if you're
brave you can try some of these. I haven't!

Run SysPrep.exe if you replace any hardware

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q292175.ASP

Start Windows 2000 setup from within Windows 2000 and select "Update".
Choose to setup Windows 2000 - on the next screen choose upgrade to
Windows 2000.
Start the installation.
First time it wants to reboot, switch of the computer, change all hardware
you want.

Once you turn on the computer again, Windows will continue installation with
a complete new hardware scan and installation of Windows 2000.

In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\PCI, find keys with
'VEN_xxxx',
where xxxx are strings like '1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_00011103&REV_04'.

These folders will contain a 'DeviceDesc' key which should match the
hardware you
are trying to install. Right click on the 'VEN_xxxx' for that device, select
'Permissions' and then check the box for a 'Allow Full Control'. This should
solve
the problem

1. Boot into Recovery Console
2. Enter this command: enable atapi SERVICE_BOOT_START
