HDD or flash based camcorder help

We are looking for a hard drive or flash memory based camcorder that allows
for ease of use with WMM. It would be great if we could just take the files
right from the drive to the computer and open them up. All I've found so
far seems to be proprietary file types that require an additional step of
conversion through another program before it can go into WMM.
Is there any camcorder that this can be done with? Or is the only option to
capture during playback?
If so, then a camcorder that will capture during playback through USB would
be good enough.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am not a user but
rather just the one trying to find a solution.

MM is designed to work with minidv type camcorders connected via firewire,
both the hdd and sd based models can be troublesome.
If you want one of these then I'd look at buying some software to go with
it.
Look at Adobe premiere elements, Ulead video studio, Pinnacle studio and
vegas have a buget end as well.
Models that record in mpeg2, like the hdd models will be easier to edit then
the new avchd format. In a short while though apps will treat avchd natively
and this format is very high quality while low disc space.

We do have access to Pinnavle studio so that may be the way the users should
go for this new camera.
Do you happen to know of which HDD camcorders record in non-propietary
formats? Something were a conversion doesn't have to take place before being
able to edit the file with something like Pinnacle. I have done much
searching but have been unable to find any outright answers.

They all use a way of naming their files, but in essence they are all mpeg2
vobs and the latest versions of the software tend to allow the importation
of the vobs as they are.

Thanks for the help, next step for me is to go get my hands on some
camcorders and see what I think will be best for us.

If you have a compatible sd card, take one with you and try it in the shop
and go home and test with the trial version of the app you like.
