HDD not recognised in XP install

I've just built this system for my nephew. AMD Barton
2600+, 512Meg Kingmax PC3200 DDR, ATI Radeon 9600 video,
Western Gigital Caviar 80 Gig, HDD Liteon CD/RW.

Posts fine, all drives detected.

Trying to install Windows XP. The CD checks the hardware
configuration, loads all the files/drivers and then says
that no HDD is detected. The only option is F3 to exit.
Don't get to the screen to allow me to format and
partition the drive.

Any ideas?

I've built quite a few systems and can't remember ever
having this problem. Not running RAID or third party SCSI
devices so bypassed the F6 option.

Any help would be appreciated

Make sure the hard drive is the master and the cd/rw is a slave. Dual
masters is fine, if they're on different IDE channels. Or.... one of your
devices has "flown south" and needs to be replaced (it's probably still
under warranty, hopefully).

.
Grr Grr - HDD jumper was set to Master. Changed to CS
(Cable Select) and all is well

Thanks anyway

LOL, kind of what I thought. I've done it myself when I've gotten in a hurry
with a unit that had plenty of work to do on it.
