R RandyH Jan 8, 2004 #2 XP will throttle down devices based on the number of errors experiences on the device. Assuming you fix the problem, drivers, proper 80 wire cable, misbehaving slave devices, goofy SMART BIOS implementation etc., you can reset the process have you run a check disk lately?
