My HDD is detected by BIOS but not by Windows XP Pro, not even showing
up in the Disk Manager. I have four IDE devices - all Parallel ATA. The
Primary controller has one 80GB Samsung (Master) and one LG Combo drive
(slave).
The secondary has one 80 GB Seagate (Master) and another 20 GB Seagate
(Slave). The problem is with the second drive in the secondary
controller(20GB). It shows up in the BIOS ( it is NTFS formatted and
has 2 partitions with data - it once used to be my primary drive). But
Windows XP does not detect it at all. I attached another 80 GB drive in
its place and it was not detected either.
Earlier, the master and the slave drive of the secondary IDE cable were
in interchanged positions. The closer one to the controller was slave
and the further one was master and both the drives were detected. I
have now interchanged it - the further one is slave and the closer one
is master. That should not change anything, does it? Even earlier, the
drive attached further used to be detected on and off. This time, its
not detected at all. Both IDE cables are 40 wire.
