Hi,
I am going to install an extra hard drive in my computer, it is a Hitachi
Deskstar 7K500, which is a 500gig SATA II drive. Will I be able to use it
as a 500gb drive or will I need to partition it, or is it better to
partition it. Thanks for any advice or help
Regards
Bob

Windows XP has no problem with a 500 GB NTFS partition. You will need to
have at least one partition if you want to use the drive.

Today BH2 commented courteously on the subject at hand

No problem if you format with NTFS. FAT32 will need at least two
partitions.

Windows XP can be able to partition the drive for you. If you right click My
Computer, and left click on Manage a screen will pop up. I believe it's
called Disk Managment, click on that. On the right side of the screen it
will show you all devices (both HDD and CD/DVD drives) that are connected.
Right click on the 500GB HDD and select partition.

If you are looking for a program specific partitioning tool, you can try
Partition Magic.
