hi

i'm french and not fluent in english but i'll try to explain my trouble :

I have an 500 go HD 5001LJ T166S from SAMSUNG in a multimedi HD player.

I think that the electronic card crash because of high voltage.

On net i find only HD 5001LJ T166 without S.

I wrote several mail, and i phone to SAMSUNG to kows what is ( are)
difference beetween T166 and T166S.
No answers afetr mail and with phone the answer was : i don't know.

Someone could be able to explain me what is (are) difference , and the more
important thing : electroinic card are they "compatible" ( use one instead
of another one)

Please help me, because my HD was full and i lost all

Series Model Capacity RPM Interface Buffer
Spinpoint F DT HD501IJ 500G 7200 SATA 3.0Gbps 8MB

A single platter inside the drive holds 334GB. The T166 may refer to a
single side of the platter. (In other words, to build a 500GB drive
would take two platters, one platter fully used at 334GB, the
second platter only a single side is used at 166GB. Total 500GB.
An alternate construction would be with three platters, each
half used, 3*166GB = 500GB.)

I was not able to find a "part number decoder", so cannot guess further
as to what the difference between T166 and T166S might be.

This one might be a better fit to your part number.

Family Model Capacity(GB) RPM Interface Buffer Sector size
T166 HD501LJ 500 7200 SATA 3.0Gbps 8 512

The note at the bottom of the table says the T166 is
"Q2’08 EOL". That means "End Of Life" for the manufacturing
of the product was in the summer of 2008.

References to T166S all seem to be on Hungarian language pages (the "hu"
part of the following link). And the pages no longer seem to be on the
Samsung site. They showed up in a search engine. This page is not acknowledged
on the Samsung site.

http://www.samsung.com/hu/consumer/...harddiskdrives&subtype=t166s&model_cd=HD501LJ

I would try to find a copy of the page on web.archive.org, but
the web.archive.org is not operating right now. This is where
I go, to find cached copies of web pages. Try this
link later, and see if it has been archived. Hungarian
is supposed to be a difficult language to learn, and I
don't have a web translator to use for it.

hi

i found

http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...chures/downloads/memory/psg_memory_200804.pdf

in this document there is T166S and noting aubout T166

is there possible that there is no difference in fact, that the "name"
change according to country?

in EST Europe ( hungaria, russia... T166S) in W EU T166

That is a good find. Notice the T133S entries are all SATA drives,
while the T133 entries are all PATA. The extra letter may have
been used at one time, to distinguish SATA drives.

That increases the odds that the T166S and T166 are the same thing,
just with a naming convention change.

Of course, getting confirmation from Samsung would be the best answer.
Or from a data recovery firm. You could pretend you're in the market
for a replacement controller board, and ask for clarification.

I disn't find spécifiquely T166S; then i bought T166, and surprise, T 166S
aas livered.

I change electronic card and... and... HD ran and strange noise ans stop..
HD is really dead.

I rebuilt new hd with new El card... and i will use it

Then all my 500GO data are lost
