CompUsa is selling a 200 gig drive for $79.99, which they have their name on
the box. But the manufacturer is of Maxtor.

Last week they had one that appears directly from Maxtor. Anyone know the
differences in quality between the two?

The one that they boxed under their own name may be an OEM version of the
Maxtor drive. OEM version do not have the same warranty as the "retail" kit
drives nor does Maxtor offer direct tech support. For warranty and tech
support on OEM drives, you will have to deal with Compusa directly.
