Don

I purchased a new hard drive and when i put it into my pc,
it detects it fine and boots to windows. It says it
detected new hardware and that its a hard drive and about
15 seconds after windows boots it reboots. It will
continue to do this even in safe mode. Any ideas on
getting this to work? I heard that xp doesnt like major
hardware changes but i didnt think that adding a hard
drive would affect it like this. Thanks for the help.

I suspect you have a DRIVE jumper problem here. Some
systems require that the HD jumpers be set to CS (cable
select) and other motherboards expect the drive to be set
to master/slave. If your first (original) drive is set
to CS then set the new (second) one to CS, if the first
one is set to master then BE CAREFUL to verify that it
doesn't have a second setting for MASTER WITH SLAVE,
either way the second drive will need to be set as slave
given this second senerio.

One last note, get into your bios and be sure it's
detecting the drive properly.
