HD lite on for no reason

When I leave my computer unattended for 10-15 minutes or so, the hd lite
comes on (as stays on for up to 30 sec) indicating some sort of data
transfer is taking place. My modem shows little or no activity. What's
going on?

TIA

Many programs and services detect idle time to do background updating of
their files. It could also be the Indexing Service, anti-virus software or
dozens of other things? When you see this activity, press CTRL+ALT+DEL once
to bring up the Task Manager. Click the Precesses tab to see what program is
using the CPU cycles.
