There are 2 HD hooked on. HD light on the case is on. The "D" HD is not
visible on Windows. When I remove the D HD the light comes on. Is the drive
dead. The D HD (Quantum Fireball 13GB) I use as a back up.

Sorry, when I remove D HD the light is off.

Are they on the same cable? Have you checked to make sure the jumpers
are set correctly?

In the old days I did run into some quirkyness regarding the
co-existence of different brands on the same channel. A Quantum I had
and a Maxtor wouldnt get along at all. It would act really bizarre and
srart corrupting the hds. Then I put them on separate cables and they
worked fine. Strangely I had a Fujitsu too at the time and the Quantum
got along with that.

That LED case light only shows HDD activity, not presence...

Could be the Table of Contents has been messed up, or the like. Windows
wouldn't see it in that case. Don't know which version of windows you
have, but if it's a modern one, go to the disk management console and
see if it's in there.

Or it could be dead. It is an old drive.

Maxtor (Quantum) has a nifty little program for their drives called
PowerMax or something. Boots from a floppy. You might want to look for
that too.

Could be dead, run Quantum's diagnostics after trying to backup
data to another drive, if possible.
