Sometimes the HD starts to generate sound like click, click, and clik.
Sometimes this clicks stop without any problems, but sometimes pc suspends
with a freeze screen “to prevent further damageâ€, but reboot next without any
problems.

What this click is? What is wrong with this HD, and how to fix this?

May be, this is not windows problem, but I’ll appreciate any advice.

Your hard drive is more than likely going to die soon.

This is not something you can fix.

Either backup, or move all the data off the drive and get a new drive.

If you still are having the problem, try this quick and easy troubleshoot:

If the hard drive is not failing or has not failed, the clicking can also be
caused by a faulty data cable, data corruption, incorrect BIOS settings
and/or virus infection.

1) Power the system down and disconnect the IDE cable to the drive making
the noise, leaving the power cable attached.

2) When you apply power to the drive with the ribbon cable detached, does it
still make the noise?

If yes, the drive has failed.

Other possibilitiy is, the auto-detect feature in BIOS does not detect the
drive.

If No, a faulty cable is likely. Replace the cable to see if this corrects
the clicking. If it does not the drive has most likely experienced some data
corruption.

Clicking from a hard drive could be the start of a bearing failure.
Once the bearings go, the drive is trash. That happened to my work
computer about six months ago, with no warning. Ouch.

I've also heard a drive head crash before, on a home computer. THAT
was a very unpleasant sound. Ouch again.

In my experience with hundreds of hard drives, a "click, click, clicking"
sound of the HD nearly always means impending failure of the HD. So before
you begin rebooting I would strongly advise you to copy whatever important
files you need or, more importantly, clone the contents of that drive (using
a disk imaging program) to another internal or external HD.

You should also obtain a diagnostic utility that virtually all HD
manufacturers have available for download and test the HD.

man, seriously the exact same happened to my 40gb ibm deskstar, heres how i
recoverd it long enough to save my all important music:

1. put in freezer, in some sort of bag to stop moisture
2. re-insert. this should give it enough time to live long enough to get
your data off. its something to do with parts compressing becasue their
cold, n so move better.
3. go *sigh* and throw that junk out of the window

Switch the IDE cable and the power cable to the drive.

Try it again.

Have a nice one...
