I have two 200GB WD hard drives. Every so often my system locks up and when I reboot computer tells me I have no drives. If I physically pull the computer forward off the stand the drive seems to wake up and after a reboot the computer boots & works fine. I have checked all power cables and data cables. Nothing seems to help. I have checked the drive with Norton and Windows XP system tools. The Drive seems fine

System is a P4 3.2 with 1 GB of Ram......

I just love Windows XP, you basically have to train it to
do everything. Welp, you could try going into power
management settings from your screen saver settings and
select never sleep for your hard drives but I bet you are
also going to neet to get in there in the control panel for
system and disable the ability for Windows to put those
items to rest whenever they are idle to save power. I
cannot stand it when my hard drives turn off and then I
need some information fast from them. It is an absolute
nightmare. Golly I miss college and my macs, big macs that
is from mcdonalds of course lol.

Hello;
It sounds to me like you have an temperature rise problem within your
machine. If you turn it completely off, then wait 15 minutes and turn it
back on does it boot up OK, following a operational failure? Did you boost
the tower cooling fan requirements when you added a second 200Gb hard
drive? Hard drives are notorious heat generators. Post back, with some
experimental testing you have performed.
