i am considering buying a sony hd camcorder. Does movie maker support
editing in the high definition format?

Yes, I don't have an HD camcorder but I've tried an HD clip from someone
else.... you have to use a custom profile when saving, but yes, it works.
Bigger files, more memory needed, more time to render....

I hav bougth a Sony HDR-HC1E High Definition camcorder, and i can inform you
that i does NOT work with MM2. When you try to Capture you will get an error
message (i don't remember which) and thereafter the device is no longer
reconised

Thanks... I haven't tried an HD camcorder, and I'd expect it not to work for
capture or saving back to tape.... what I tried was the editing of a clip
that was captured by other software, which worked.

Why didnt you expect it not to work with HD? Microsoft are doing a lot of
promotion on HD and WMV. Telling us all that WMV can do HD, but MM2 and Media
encoder from MS cannot do capture fram HDV camcorders?

There are no built-in profiles to handle the rendering to HD. I do it by
hacking Movie Maker, so they'll need to be a program update when it's
included in the official release.

Hi
Any idea when Movie Maker will incliude the HD format. It seems a waste to
have a HD Sony Camera and have to edit at DV level.

Did software come with the camcorder that lets you do some editing? I know
you can capture it...
See the WMV-HD section of my website... that's where I put things related to
HD. I have downloadable custom profiles on it.

No SW included. Sony just say: Connect to Win XP and use som Video editing SW
The problem is that when plugging (via iLink/1394) inn the Sony HDV camera
it installs smoothly, but after this it dosent list in Contol
Panel/Hardware/Device manager. When using Nero 7 it works fine, Nero finds
the Camera and controls it fine. I believe that nero has build in drivers for
this specific Camera.
The problem with Nero is that i cant save in native HD format, only
compressed.
i have also tried Cyberlink Power Director 5 because they have announced
they are supporting HDV, but PowerDirector can't find the Camera.
I don't think there is no idea in loading a HD profile, when MM2 dosen't
find the camera
