HD copy utility?

I am trying to copy an old hard drive to a new one (PATA to SATA).

I have tried the manufacturer's utility (MaxBlast) and commercial software
(Norton Ghost). Neither work. The Maxblast software misses files and Norton
refuses to run correctly (I am pursuing this).

But I need to copy my HD quickly.

So can anyone recommend software? Preferably free and downloadable.
