Having trouble reading any emails

I have recently set up Windows Mail to retrieve the mail sent to my ISP
provided email account. My problem is that I am having trouble reading any
of the messages when Windows Mail syncs with my ISP's account. The messages
arrive but when I click on them to read them, then the issues begin. One of
two things happen.

First, if there aren't any attachments included in the message the message
opens but is not easy to read at all. There is all sorts of weird stuff
embedded in the text. For example: Font<>, Scroll<>, etc. The message is
practically unreadable because it is hard to distiguish from the original
text. This is strange since when I read the message on the ISP mail service
there aren't any problems with it at all. Everything looks as though it
should.

Second, if there are attachments included in the message I cannot open them.
When I click on the paperclip all that happens is a blank window pops up
with the attachment name appearing in the bar but nothing else. This is also
strange to me because I don't even have to click on or open attachments when
using the ISP mail service, they just appear below any text that is a part of
the message.

Please help. This kind of thing isn't happening with any of my web based
email accounts, e.i. iwon, hotmail or with the account offered by my ISP
(clearwire.net).

It sounds to me as if the ISP is messing up the message by adding stuff to
it. What happens if you email yourself? Do you get the same results?
