Hi Renee,

Try this

In some cases, it is necessary to restore a system file that has been
corrupted or deleted. In Windows XP, you can use the System Configuration
Utility to restore the file. Follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type msconfig and then click OK.
3. Click Start, and then click RunType msconfig and then click OK.
4. Click Expand File.
5. In the "File to restore" box, type the name of the file that you want to
restore.
6. In the "Restore from" box, type the location of the Windows installation
CD or files. (In many cases, the installation files are in a folder on the
hard drive.) (You can also click Browse, and browse to this location.)
7. In the "Save file in" box, type the location of the folder to which you
want to restore this file. (You can also click Browse, and browse to this
location.)
8. Click Expand.

Hi Renee,

I did not mean to ignore you.

If I understand the file you need is " sndvol32.exe " .

Try geting this file from C:\Windows\System32\dllcache.

Just copy it from there to C:\Windows\System32.

Let me know
Richard
thanks so much richard, learn something new every day.
unfortunately, nothing happened when i hit expand.
