I could be in the mist of a game, writing a letter, doing a search on the
internet when all of a sudden I get this pop up screen telling me that it
has to close down. Why does this happen? It is so frustrating.

Thanks for your information and time.

You have the blaster virus, I think.

You should have an antivirus software package and use it. Also keep current
with update files.

Also, get a firewall (ZoneAlarm has quite a good free version).

Download and run Ad-Aware and Spybot 1.2. Keep these packages current with
updates.

Free online virus scans of your hard drive can be found at trendmicro.com,
symantec.com or mcafee.com

I have spybot, adware, zone alarm and Mcafee that comes with xp. I have all
my updates up to date be them Microsoft and Mcafee. Anything else you see
could be a problem????
Thanks

Flo, what exactly does the screen say that talks about having to shut down?

It says something to the effect that Microsoft has encountered an error and
must shut down.. what I have done is seen what the error was and copied
them. here are some of the errors that occurred.
I have not idea what that is all about.

You're running into various programs errors. The errors are serious enough
that Windows wants to restart so that other data in memory is not
corrupted.

You may want to disable this if you don't use it:

VSMON belongs to Zone Alarm. May want to check for an updated version of
this program.

This is the Macromedia Flash plug-in - allows flash content to be displayed
in the browser. Some sites use this as a standard part of their page but it
is also a common tool used to display those blinking, flashing ads. You
might want to check the macromedia website and download a newer flash
player. No need to get the fancy one unless you create flash presentations.
In most cases, the free player is what you want.

Thank you , Sharon. I went to the Macromedia site and downloaded the 10.
something. I had a 7. something. Hope this works. If not, I will write
again for help. You have all been most helpful.

Thanks for your time, effort and energy.
