For some reason the internal update feature of AVG AV free version 6.0.0.46
has been just sitting there idly and commences to download nothing today. I
believe the newest update is supposed to be file d60313h3.bin as of the 8th
of August.

Has anyone else had such difficulties today?

Thanks,

I downloaded d60313h3.bin yesterday online, which the website said now
includes detection of the lovsan virus. As per your experience, the
internal updater wasn;t doing anything. The download was slow, not
suprising considering that the XP newsgroups are going nuts. (If you
have win9x, you're supposed to be okay for this one.)

Yes, I have W98/se, but still, the site or something must be messed up, as
when I manually downloaded it from their Web page, it took something close
to 5 minutes with DSL for a measly ~3.5 Mb! Normally the internal update
feature has functioned flawlessly and quickly. Such is not the case now as
both we two (and probably others) have discovered.

Thanks very much Maureen, I appreciate your input.

Everyone is in such a panic that the site is probably overloaded.

BTW, my newest AVG update is d603173n.bin, dated today.

Yes I havent figured out why. I used the update built in, it worked,
but then avg reported it was out of date,, ie it was still 8-11-03 the
up was 8-12-03
Im thinking there was a build update included But something went
kafluie
..I also manualy downloaded the update..
program version 6.0.509 release date 2/26/03
virus database 306 release date 8/12/03
what does yours say ?
Lonny

The same thing happened to me yesterday (Update version was 8/12/03 but AVG
app said it was out-of-date). Upon rebooting, all was well.

Look in C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\UPDATE. d603173n.bin is the latest
update AFAIK.

Lucky,
Had a little trouble last night (rush for the blaster worm, I figure,) but
it finally came when I clicked it manually.

Yep, that's true...so true. I should have known.

Thanks,

Zmartha,

Thanks for the reply Zmartha; It seemed that due to the commotion of
yesterday, it required all kinds of contortions to get the update; and
slowly at that!

I rebooted also but AVG still thought it wasnt updated till after midnight :)
By the way there is another today
d6031etf.bin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~
Updated to the same today as well Lonny; database 307. I did notice that the
Interim update of 13/Aug/03 file d603173n.bin was "corrupted" or something
to that effect, and was deleted. This was the wording from an Avg message
box that was displayed from the internal update feature.

Hi LuckyStrike all seams well in AVG land, Did notice in your original
question the build was lower than should have been. Look at for some
clues(see below)
even the ups for avg7 ,I suspect a hiccup(technical term) between
versions plus all the traffic didnt help things.

Not sure becouse I had uninstalled tried another av maker, then
installed when avg turned to instead of 6 ,free,,, didnt care much for
avast4
Regards
Lonny

Yeah got it; Thanks Lonny. BTW, I now remember what the message that came up
from Avg was; it stated "The File was damaged and has been deleted." That
was for the d603173n.bin update. Damaged and corrupted - amounts to the same
thing, right?
