have to copy twice to get copy paste to work

Whenever I try to copy and paste the first time I paste, it paste something I
copied previously. I have to do this every time. Anyone have any ideas?

Press your ctrl-c before your ctrl-v and not your ctrl-v before your
ctrl-c, if you [ctrl-] c what I mean
