I have an old Toshiba P1351 dot matrix printer that I need
to do the billing of my customers. The driver was in
Windows 98 but not in XP. Can anyone suggest how to
extract the driver from WIN 98 or where to get a driver?
I've checked with Toshiba. I read/or heard someplace that
XP could run applications that were designed for WIN 98
but I can't seem to find out from anyone how to get the
printer drivers from WIN 98 out and .......... how to get
them into my new computer operating with XP. The new
computer is a Gateway and their tech support is ecccch!

The Windows 98 drivers won't work on XP. You can run applications designed
for Windows 98, but print drivers are not "applications".

Try using the Generic, Generic / Text Only driver or the Generic, Generic
IBM Graphics 9pin.

"Generic" appears under the "Manufacturer" in the list of printer types.

Wow, Bruce, great minds...

Hi Bruce, Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned
that I'd tried the generic in XP but it occasionally
misses line feeds and over prints some lines. I'll give
the IBM 9 pin a try but the Toshiba P1351 is a (I think)
24 pin printer. It's a real work horse and going with
laser or ink jet would be quite costly in comparison. I do
carbonless printing of my monthly billing and really need
a good quality dot matrix ..... which they don't seem to
make anymore.

If you have any suggestion as to where I might purchase
the service of having someone create a driver or an
application that would extract the Win98 driver and insert
it into XP ...... I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks

Jim.

Do you have a problem with comprehension?! No? Then why are you still
enquiring how to extract the 98 driver when Bruce has told you, quite
clearly, in plain English that the 98 driver will *NOT* run under XP and
attempting to install it could seriously impair the functionality of your
system.

Many of the old dot matrix printers had emulation modes. If you have
the manual for your P1351, see what other printers, if any, it can
emulate. It's possible that you might be able to find a usable driver
under a different make/model.

And as near as I can tell from a quick Google search, the P1351 is a
24-pin printer.

Perhaps you can emulate a Epson printer which most could back on theose 9
and 24 pin clinkers.
One of the Epson LQ series may work try LQ1050 (from memory)
