have modern mainboards a game port? - I have to develop
a external input device e.g. by using a Joystick "Powerpad" who has
many keys. Now I don't know whether it's worth it developing a input
device on base of USB instead of the game port because the game port may
disappear in future,

BTW: it has to work with Linux

All motherboards with on-board sound that I came across so far had the game
port though some of them did not have or included the 15 pin D connector, it
was an optional extra.

The function is nowadays provided by the LPC (low pin count) IO controller
that also provides serial ports, parallel port, MIDI, floppy controller,
hardware monitor, smart card reader, keyboard controller, consumer infrared.
