I just tried deleting an old website and replacing it with a new one using
FTP but I nolonger have password restrictions for browsing or administrating
the website. I had a look on various sites and realise that I am missing the
service.grp & service.pwd in my _vti_pvt file . Not realising their
importance I can only assume that I've accidently deleted them when I was
deleting the old websites file from the server on FTP.

How can I get these files back to enable me to set a browse password and
administrators password on the site again ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it should be a confidential site
accessed by password only.

First off, you should not have used FTP to delete the content of the site, as you have most like
destroyed the FP extensions in the process. The host will need to re-install them and then grant you
permission to create unique permissions or set up the permissions, again for you.

Thank you for your advice and I have contacted my host as per your advice. I
had been having problems with using the 'publish site' in Frontpage which is
why I'd moved to using FTP but I will now try and solve the problems with the
publishing rather than use FTP again.
