New Vista user? That annoying Welcome Center in your way?

Don't dismiss it yet! Read the top panel. On the left you can see how much
memory Vista sees on your machine. In the middle you can see what video
adaptor your machine has and if it says "(Microsoft Corporation WDDM)
underneath, you've got Glass!

Click on the arrow on the right and you will get the System Properties page
where you can see more info about your computer and at the bottom whether or
not Windows is activated. If not you can click the link and activate right
now!

Want to send feedback to MS? Use the help button on your desktop. It is
the round, blue and white button with the question mark. Double click and
read the page. Want to share your sentiments about Vista? Use the link in
the first paragraph. Want to report bugs? Use the link in the second
paragraph to download the bug reporting tools.

Well, I have an ATI 9700 using the ATI beta drivers, "rated"
4.2, I've got Glass, but I do not see "Microsoft Corporation WDDM"
anywhere.

Running GeForce 7900 GTX with nVidia beta drivers, have Glass but also do
not see "Microsoft Corporation WDDM" anywhere.

That should make a good bug report.

Also look in the Device Manager to see if the text is missing from the
driver name there. If it is in one it should be the other, but mine is
showing as expected so I can't tell. I suspect you will not see it there
either. If you are getting Glass anyway it may be a bug in how the driver
is reporting itself to Vista and you should file a bug report.

You should see "(Microsoft Windows WDDM)" after the name of your video card
in the Device Manager and in the upper center of your Welcome Center screen.
You have other ways to determine it, but if you do not see any transparency
in your Windows or in the Task Bar then either you do not have Glass or
Glass is not enabled. Glass turns off itself when you run some programs if
there will be rendering issues and returns when the program is closed.

1. Do you have animations when closing and opening your windows?
2. When you press the windows key + tab, do you get Flip 3D?
3. Do you get live window previews?
4. Do your windows have shadows on them?
5. When you press alt+tab, do you get live thumbnails when switching?

If you answered 'no' to all these questions, you probably aren't running
glass.

Check 'Task Manager' for dwm.exe and the 60meg mem it uses. Thats glass. And
they use to call window blinds............

I have a question.. I do have Glass (yes to all answers except the Flip 3D
since I don't have the "Windows Key")

So the question is how to I emulate this "Windows Key" on an old keyboard?
Tried ALT-CTRL-TAB but it still gives me the live task switcher (live
meaning, I see the animations of mediaplayer while switching.. just not in
Flip 3D mode).

Thx in advance.

Aye.. starting to think the same thing the more I try it.. I know I can do it
programmatically, but since I haven't started developing on Vista, guess I'll
have to wait a bit longer and see once I do program one.

Thx
