Have Canon i550, considering s9000

I have the i550 and although it prints very good photos, the colors
aren't as vivid as I'd hoped. I have had it since January 2003 and
have been pretty happy. Now that I have a very good digital camera
(Nikon Coolpix 5700, 5 MP), I'm a little disappointed in the photos.

Considering a few things;
-to upgrade to the Canon S9000 (6 ink tanks to my current 3)
-to use a photo lab (Ritz, or Walmart) to print out selected photos

I have been using paper from Staples, Kodak, and Canon (seems to work
best, of course!)

I know it's a longshot, but if there are any people out there who have
this combo (i550 and the Coolpix 5700), I'd love to hear from you and
hear about your experiences.

Thanks,
John D.

Wow, thanks for the info Ron, this is the kind of stuff I was looking
for. I see now that the i9100 printer is available (for about $499)
and that replaces the s9000. I got some kodak paper (11 x 17) real
cheap from Staples on a clearance (25 sheets per pack @ 7.99), and
that got me thinking about the larger fomat printers.
I did read one post here that raised a valid concern about printing a
13 x 19, that you might be better off getting that done from a lab, so
I'm taking that under consideration.
I'd still like to go to 6 ink tank colors, so maybe the s830D/s820 or
the new replacements for them (i950)?
I guess what my question would be at this point: how much better in
picture quality is the i9100/s9000 over the i950? If they are the
same, then I can't justify the extra $200 for just the ability to
print larger formats.

Thanks again for the info. I am certainly soaking it up!

Best,
John D.

To the best of my knowledge the image quality wouldn't be any better. Then
again, how much better can it really get? The s820 is fantastic and the i950
is an improvement on that. The extra size of the i9100 (or s9000) is what
raises the price, not the print quality. I don't see why there should be any
problem printing on 11x17 unless it's sticker shock at the cost of that size
paper. It is $$$$$. Then again enlargements at a lab would also be quite
pricey. You mentioned the s830d, but the only advantage that one has is the
direct print capability. I wouldn't use a feature like that since I like to
edit them prior to printing and save all originals to cd. BTW, I was at
Sam's this evening and the i950 was $218.73.

excuse me for jumping in, but Costco (if you live near one) does a
12x18 for $2.99 I've had two done, one was a montage of 5 or 6
other photos (using PSP) and the other was a graphic I made with PSP
both turned out really good
