I found several discussions in this group about the installation of the
Hauppauge WIN PVR 150 card. I had various unsuccessfull attemps (even
with Hauppauge support) to intall the card and found John's instruction
which I followed. It seems as if the card is installed properly but I
do not get any picture or sound. I am on DirecTV and the channel is set
to 3. I need some guidance what to do now. Any settings to be changed?

Are you sure the box uses channel 3, some can use 4.

How do you have the box hooked to your card?

I use channel 3 on an ordinary TV to watch TV. According to the
Hauppauge setup instructions for WinTV2000 the input for satelite
should be Antenna which I selected. I then search for channels and it
came with Ant 3 (Hauppauge support also indicated that.)
The hookup - I tried S-video from the box to the card as well as a
normal co-axial cable.
Thanks

Have you gotten a picture with anything else, like an antenna or VCR or
something with a video output?

My satellite box does not have a coaxial output for video, but only
component, and video and s-video so I could not use the Antenna In
connector. I would probably use the video and left and right audio outputs
to connect to the card. In that case, it would not be channel 3, but some
type of video input. Pretty much the same for s-video. You probably know
all this, but I am just thinking while I type. If you haven't been able to
get any signal, I would use something, like an antenna input to get it to
work and then go from there.

I suppose the software install went alright. I don't have one of those
cards, although I have been thinking about getting one. Maybe someone who
does have one will know what is wrong.

I have found, with 2 different TV tuner cards, that the cards I used, an ATI
All in Wonder video/tuner card and a WinFast TV2000 XP Expert tuner card,
must have a cable/antenna selection in the software configuration, and it
must be set to antenna in order to work with the Dish Network satellite
system I use. Before I bought the WinFast TV2000 XP Expert I bought a less
expensive card that didn't have any cable/antenna selector in it's software
configuration setup and I couldn't get it to work. I returned it for the
WinFast TV2000 XP Expert which had that option.. Also , the TV tuner in the
card must be set to channel 60 on my system, my satellite receiver requires
the TV or tuner card that is connected to "TV 2" on the satelite receiver be
set to channel 60 in order to receive the signal, (much in the same way a TV
is set to channel 3 or 4 when using the coax connectors to a VCR to it). You
might have the same kind of problem I had.

Good luck,

Uhm... why wouldn't you connect to the card using the RCA or SVideo jacks?
That would give a MUCH better picture.

I uninstall and reinstall the drivers several times and finally got a
picture and sound. I followed the following connections. From the
DirecTV box ("out to tv") to the WinPVR card (TV Connector -for Ant or
cable TV input). Tried Svideo from DirecTV box to Svideo input without
any results. There is a yellow Composite video connector. Can I use
this connector to connect picture to a TV?

What did you do differently that caused it to work this time?

I went back to the article posted by John on April 30, 2006 where he
suggested the following procedure (all I did was to update the drivers
from Hauppauge website and save them in a seperate loaction and install
from that location) -

"Hauppauge Driver versions:
It is recommended that you use the drivers that came on your product's
CD. If you want to install the most current drivers (as of 4/20/06)
then
follow this procedure:
1. Download and run HCWCLEAR.EXE (to completely remove old drivers).
2. Reboot. Cancel the "Add Hardware Wizard" in Windows when it
appears.
3. Run PVR150_23348_WHQL\HcwDriverInstall.exe (Base driver)
4. Run pvr150_22_23257.exe (Middleware driver)
5. Run wintv2K411_23347.exe (WinTV2000 application)
6. Run hcwsmd05_23290.exe (Hauppauge MPEG video/audio decoders)
7. Run ir32_245_22350.exe (Infrared remote control utility)
8. Run sched21_23102.exe (Scheduled capture utility)
9. Run pvr150_500_basedriver_2043_24103.exe (Yes, that's correct --
install this updated "base driver" LAST.) "

Maybe #9 (LAST) above is the crux of the matter!!

After all these problems I guess I got the wrong card as I want to be
able to wacth TV not only on my PC but also a TV monitor and should
have bought a 350 card in stead of the 150
