hatachi hd probs

Hi All,
I recently bought a new Hard Drive (Hitachi Deskstar HDS728080plat20 ATA/IDE
82.3 gb).
This has been bought soleley as a slave drive (storage)
Having set the jumpers to slave, I connected it all up.
Booted my pc (xp sp2) and on start up it detected the drive.
The little icon in the bottom corner came up when Windows had started and
after a few moments I assumed the drive was installed and ready to go......
BUT
When I went to "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer" no drive was showing only
my master drive (maxtor) ???
If I go to Device manager and check, The drive is showing and is "working
properly" !!!!!
So why 'o' why cant I see it in "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer"

Any help would be most appreciated

You have formatted the drive ?. Right click My Computer\Manage\Disk
management, to see what you`ve got there.

I guess old age is getting the better of me !!!!!!
Formatting the drive is a very good idea
