In XP, all one had to do was =shift-click= on the close box (the X), and
thereafter Windows Explorer windows would remember their last size and
display.

This function surfaced briefly in a Beta version of Vista, but soon
disappeared. Today, with RC2, this function is still not available.

I have searched this discussion group with every possible rephrasing of the
question "How do we force Eindows Explorer to remember its last size?", with
almost no luck, as if no one has noticed. One wag suggested this was cleared
up in RC2; clearly, he hadn't rebooted his system after resizing the window.

Anyone? There certainly seem to be a lot of MVPs around... .

Yes...I noticed...but after experimenting, I found CTRL-Close (X) does the
same as the 'old' SHIFT-Close (X) did.

....which was basically nothing, from my experience.

Are you sure that CTRL-Close (X) works? I just tried it and I'm not seeing
it perform the same behavior as in Windows XP with SHIFT-Close (X).

Maybe I was just holding my tongue right at the time, but is seemed to me
that it works, and I've used it since, on other windows. Way back when,
someone/somewhere I heard/read that CTRL-X was the correct solution, but
that didn't work for me in XP...then I went to the SHIFT-X, and it worked
fine. In Vista, I tried the SHIFT-X and it didn't seem to work so I reverted
to the aforementioned CTRL-X, and it seems to work.
