Has anyone tried installing/running any utillity software on Vista

Hello,

Wondering if anyone has tried to run any registration repair, disk cleanup,
or other such utilities on Vista (other than those built in.) If so, what
are they? I don't think I'd attempt to run something like Partition Magic,
but thought a registration repair utility might fix the problem I have of an
uninstalled virus appication being listed as installed in the security
center. I also want to start installing some applications to see how RC1
handles my usual apps.
 
Do not use any regcleaning or system-tweaking utilities in Vista.
Why ?

Because

a) Vista is still a Beta Program and the Registry in Vista is built
different as in XP
b) all those utilities are developed for XP and server 2003 - it could
delete something rhat in XP would not matter, but for Vista might have
unpredictable side-effects.

Its not really a matter of better, its just the fact that Registry is not a
place to mess with, thirdparty registry cleaners tend to make things worst.
As for Disk Clean up and Defragment, I prefer using the built in ones.

Instead of being activated by the user, the program runs in the background
at all times to maintain the performance of your computer. Compared to prior
versions, Defragmenter in Vista looks and feels dumb down and does not offer
the graphs and real time monitoring that users were accustomed to. Familiar
features such as Scheduling and Defrag now are available but that’s about
it. The ultimate aim is to keep the performance of Windows in tiptop shape
over time. XP and prior versions of Windows have always been known for their
bit rot excellence over time; hopefully Vista puts an end to that.

It's not a good idea to use a registry cleaner in XP. They cause more
problems than they fix. Since the Vista registry is a similar model the
same advice applies.
