Has anyone Tested the Speech Recognition?

I don't have Vista installed, but I am interested in the Speech recognition
and how it works.

How accurate is it?
Can you open "Notepad" start speaking about anything (e.g.; how to make
scrambled eggs) and does Vista just type away?
Has anyone tried the Speech Recognition features yet?

Please share your experiences with all.

Thanks
Sean

Well, I've just tried now - I said "How to make scrambled eggs" in my posh
British accent...
It came up with "Ho?? to maike scrembled exx"

Sick of it already.

Sean ,
Speech recognition work great here in the US of A. You folks need to
remember the beta wasn't design for other dialects just yet. I can control
computer commands, and dictate to office 2007 beta. It keeps up with my
conversation quite well. I even use it with Mirc so I do type much these
days.

I won't recognize my pronunciation of my wife's name, Paula. Instead I get
Paul, pall, paw, just about everything except Paula!

It works "if" you constantly train it. A lot of persons will get some good
results with a little bit of training and thinking everything can be done in
speech. Not so, you need to continually teach it so it better recognize what
you are saying. There is a tutorial to help you get started in Vista, its
really cool. You can also dictate commands which is just amazing. :)

Born in south London, raised in the north of Scotland, back to east London
for a while and now in Australia ;)

Wow :o) Well, I was born in North Nottinghamshire, still live there most of
the time... but got my own house in the Lake District in the far end of the
Ennerdale Valley (literally nothing here... pure bliss!) and work in London
for Microsoft... quite a cushy little life, and I'm only 18 :o)

the Silicon Valley (via private jet), doing contract work for BG et al
and I'll be 17 yrs this September!

P.S. I still have an affordable inventory of international acclaimed
landmark bridges at very reasonable prices.
Financing is always available to qualified customers.

Yes, the SR in Beta 2 is very good. I'm using it more and more since I am
getting limited mobility in my right hand. It's also very easy to learn,
and very natural in talking to the computer.

Hi all

Same question, but this time I would like to hear from people who's first
language is not English.
e.g.: Someone living in Holland who's first language is Dutch and second
language is English.

Thanks in advance
Sean

I have a Lenovo tablet with Windows XP tablet edition 2005 and speech
recognition is pretty good (after alot of training). In Vista it has to
be at least as good as that, right?

Hi Sean.

I live in Canada,Quebec and my first language is french. I am bilingual and
speak with a fairly low accent. I was amazed at how easy it is to use the SR
and actually worked great to type sentences with Wordpad. I wish I could
have wrote this reply with the SR, but Im at work right now.... hopefully
someone will demonstrate how accurate it is. I got 1 incorrect word out of
30 or so, and guess what it was.... VISTA !!! The SR couldnt spell it right
no matter how I would prononce it.... funny ! :)

Otherwise its a charm..., feels like 2050 !!!
