The physical configuration is:
Wall cable to modem, modem to PCMCIA in computer, Ethernet
port from computer to internet port on wireless router.
The purpose of this is to keep the VPN access to the
mainframe undisturbed.

I already referenced The "Set Up and Use Internet
Connection Sharing" article of Aug 24, 2004 in setting up
the ICS on a Windows 2000 computer and failed on step 2,
as there was no "Network Tasks" option after clicking on
any of the network connections or menu options. I was
tempted to opt for clicking on "enable ICS on this
computer" from the properties, yet it does not seem
reasonable that one short step would replace 6 detailed
steps from Microsoft. Any ideas??

Option one:
Wall cable to modem, moden to internet port on wireless router. Forget
the Computer.

Option two:
Ditch the Wireless Router in favor of a Wireless Access Point. The is
the wrong place and the wrong way to use a NAT Device, which is what the
"wireless router" really is. They are not real routers, they are just NAT
Devices similar to typical Hardware Firewalls but with less features.

The thing you mentioned about, "...VPN access to the mainframe undisturbed"
doesn't make any sense to me, I don't know what you mean by that nor how you
expect the wireless router to accomplish this.
