I would be adding new upgrade CPU & Motherboard to my system.

I don't feel that I should have to pay out another $ 200 for another
activation on the same computer even if it has a different MB & CPU. I would
go back and use WinMe again before paying another $200.......

THeir must be a way the people can upgrade their systems and avoid this
problem........?

My wife's computer has had 4 different CPU & MB combo's in it and we have
never had a problem upgrading before.

I feel that we wasted $200 on XP.
Their should be a BIG WARNING notice on the BOX saying...."Hardware Upgrades
NOT possible with XP"

As you may know, Microsoft has introduced new anti-piracy measures into its
software. At present, Windows XP can only be installed on a single computer.
Windows Product Activation (WAP) requires that you must log onto Microsoft's
website, or by telephone, to obtain a Product Activation key in order
to be able to use the installed software. You supply the product's
identification key that Windows XP generates to Microsoft via its website,
or over the telephone. This makes it difficult to use the software on more
than one computer, because Microsoft will not allow a product identification
key
to receive more than one Product Activation key. The installed software will
then also identify the computer by its hardware - BIOS, hard disk drive,
motherboard, etc. If you have to reinstall the software, you will only be
able to do so if it recognizes the computer's hardware configuration. It wi
ll not install if it does not recognize the system.

What happens if you upgrade your computer's BIOS, hard disk drive, or
motherboard? You will probably have to follow the same course of action if
Windows XP does not recognize the system. Windows XP will interpret the
changed system as being a new one if it cannot recognize the hardware setup
it is
programmed to recognize the first time it is installed.
