Everytime I use windows, after about 3-4 hours, hardware stops working. My
graphics card expecially, and my sound card. The screensaver wont even work,
because "A compatible Direct3D device could not be found". This gets really
annoying, and I do know that it is NOT my hardware, it works on linux
perfictly fine. I would ask microsoft's "experts", but there is a $36 charge
to email them about a stupid problem. Please respond, before I put an axe
through my computer and go and try to kill microsoft.

Could be corrupted or old buggy versions of the device drivers. It's
VERY common for perepheral card manufacturers to release new versions
while products are still on retail dealer shelves. It's common for new
versions to come out a few weeks after the peripheral cards are sold at
retail too. The same thing happens with motherboard drivers. Some video
drivers have be revised to take advantage of features in new versions of
DirectX.

You can acomplish some testing and obtain a driver version listing with
the DirectX diagnostic (DXDIAG in the RUN dialog). The first tab of the
diagnostic features a save to disk function that you can use AFTER
running the tests. You can copy & paste content from the resulting file
to posts so that person with similar hardware can compare your driver
versions to theirs.

Your manufacturer should be offering any new drivers and full
instructions for their installation on their web site.

You might need to reinstall DirectX after updating video drivers.

Download and install updated drivers for your soundcard and graphics card
from the hardware manufacturers.
