Hardware Protection Fault

I get this error everytime I try and instal XP. The error message is as follows

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
STOP:0X00000050(0XE850BFBC,oXoooooooo,ox80857BA8,0X00000002

It seems to be hardware fault and I am unable to pinpoint to which hardware this is related to. My system specs are
Athlon 1.6Ghz
Gigabyte 7GX motherboar
256m Ram

I am also unable to install any other OS's on my system. Can somebody point me in the right direction please

Could be Video Card

Uninstall the driver before upgrading.

Also could be bad RAM, try other memeory.
 
Looks like a page operation error,to get specifics open control-
panel,ADM.,event viewer,chk events for details.Also,256mb of ram
is ok,but if you maxed it out and bought another 256 to = 512mb
youd find the system and xp will run 100% better,probably would/will
eliminate a pageing fault (memory).
 
As a first try I'd try swapping out the RAM with some borrowed RAM.
