LONNIE CUMMINS

Hello all; I have a strange problem which I believe to be
hardward related, but cannot confirm this. A computer
running Windows XP Pro started freezing up (and I mean
completely freezing) on occassion whenever I tried to
access certain control panel applets or browse certain
(not all) web sites. At first I thought it was related to
either a security patch or IE patch that had been put on
the machine, but now I don't. The problem got worse,
until the freeze-up occurs everytime I boot the computer.
It even occurs under the Windows XP setup program when
booting off the install CD; that is why I believe it is
hardware related. I have replaced and tried different
ram, video card, hard drives, all IDE cables, and network
card. I have removed all PCI cards not necessary to boot
and all drives not needed and tried booting from the
barest configuration possible - still freezes! Anybody
have any ideas? Am I looking at a CPU or motherboard
problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I thought about the BIOS, but why would it just suddenly
start freezing up when nothing had changed? The first
thing I thought of was a virus and have scanned the
computer with several different anti-virus and found
nothing. I did check the CPU fan and power supply fan and
both are working. The computer is a PIII 866 MHz, so it
is a few years old, but not that old. Any other thoughts?
