Hello !
I'm in a big trouble : my DKLA 23240 failed down, with horrid sounds of
"klak-klak". Now unrecognized by any BIOS down on this Earth.
Now I'm challenging myself with recovering the data on this disk, and
I'd like to benefit your many experiences. So pealse feel free to give
advices and if any chap experienced the same, please tell me about it. I
would be glad to know, for instance, what exact type of physical failure
engenders such a sound. Are the disks likely to remain untouched ? Maybe
the heads cannot unpark ?
Thanx.
JB

That noise is the drive recalibrating when it cant see anything
useful from the platters. That can be due to a number of things,
basically anything that prevents the drive reading data off the
platters anymore. And it has to be pretty bad for the drive to
no longer be seen by the bios. That can be everything from
a failure of the head preamp inside the sealed enclosure to
a failure of the connection to the heads, to a failure of the
logic card on the bottom of the drive.
Are the disks likely to remain untouched ?

Yes, thats quite likely. You usually get some
form of scraping noise if one of the heads
has come off and is gouging up the media.
Maybe the heads cannot unpark ?

Thats unlikely to make the noise you are getting.

Hello,

Your drive has typical problems with the preamp/heads..... You will
need to swap the heads yourself or use a pro data recovery company.

Good luck!
