Hardware or Software problem?

when i try to burn cds, as i have successfully in the past i get error
message "Insert a blank CD-r or CD-RW in CD drive (E:), and then try again."

But there is a blank cd-rw inside! I have gone through the entire
troubleshooting menu with no success. is this a hardware problem? Device
Manager says the device is working fine. pls help. cs
 
Device manager does not and can not check the 'laser'.. try a CD lens
cleaner.. if that doesn't work.. look to swap out the drive with a known
good one..

If you haven't already, try some other CDs. Can the player read
professionally done CDs? If so, that would show that the laser is okay.
Perhaps you have a bad CD or a bad batch?

If it can't read any CD, then swap out a CD burner that you know works
on a different computer.
