PC was working just fine..., then on one boot-up the XP system stated new
hardware found "other PCI bridge device" and I let the system search the HDD
for the driver, but it found none. Now this device continuously shows up as
an error in the device manager -- though it has yet to interfere with my
normal work.

For the sake of fixing the problem, can someone tell me what is this device
meant for and how can I get a driver so the system can configure it.

Thanks.

"On boot up" ,hows that,xp hasnt even started yet.
Add any hardware lately,if not,try updating the chipset software from the
boards mfg web site...

The PCI bridge device is included in your motherboard drivers. I don't
know why you'd suddenly get an error unless your motherboard is ailing.
You might try reinstalling your motherboard chipset drivers. Get them
from either the motherboard mftr. or the OEM if you have that kind of
computer (Dell, HP, Sony).

Did you make any changes to the hardware? Add anything? Is the computer
an elderly one?
