Hardware failure while machine restarted from hibernation

Since "hibernate" is such a cool feature, I use it all the time, but now I'm
battling with the some extremely unplesant side effects.

Recently, I tried to power up my machine (which of cours was in hibernate
state) and nothing happened. True, some lights came on and I heard some fans
spinning but that was about it.

I pulled my machine apart and voila, there was the problem: the motherboard
wouldn't POST. Since my mobo is kind of outdated, I rushed to the nearest
store and bought myself a cool new mobo and while I was at it I also tossed
a new video card into the cart.

So now here I am with a fairly flash PC, the BIOS all set up currectly and
all the hardware functioning properly but... what next???

It is obvious that waking up from hibernation will not work as quite a lot
of hardware has changed. So what I'd really like to do is go into safe mode
and remove devices I know will no longer work, install some new device
drivers and then reboot into windows normally.

I searched for KB articles and found zilch. Has anybody any ideas how to
boot into safe mode while the machine is in hibernate mode?

I ran into this once, although it wasn't after a new motherboard. What I did
was I just kept restarting and banging on the keyboard in the startup
process until I created an error that generated a safe-mode restart.

Did it recognise the new keyboard once you got it up and running? LOL
