When I ejected a USB external drive, the computer crashed and when
restarting, the User Name is the same, but all the things associated with the
user are as if I was a brand new user and have to set up internet and e-mail
accounts from the beginning.

I can see the newly created user (Name.computername) in windows explorer and
the original user as well (Name).

Is there a way to get the 'original user' back?

OS is Windows 2000 Professional SP4
Live Update has been active and computer up-to-date.
NOD32 antivirus
COMODO Firewall Pro
BOClean 25
Lavasoft Ad-Aware Pro SE

My primary objective is to get the original user back (active) so I do not
have to go through all the set-ups again.

Thank you.

Define "eject". Does it mean that the external USB drive was removed
without using the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the taskbar? If so,
any number of funny things can happen. In addition, having all of the
Norton luggage hanging on to the system could possibly make matters
worse, especially when competing products are present.

Hi Mistoffolees,

Thank you for your response.

By 'eject' I mean using the tray icon to safely unplug or eject hardware. I
get a screen to select what - it shows the USB Hardrive - I click STOP - it
says it is safe to remove - I turn the drive off - the computer crashed.

I had previously uninstalled all Norton products and gone through the
Registry - in safe mode - and deleted every Directory named Norton. This was
several months prior to the problem I am experiencing and I do not believe
there is any Norton remanents left.

I have checked Dr. Watson32 and it shows the following under function
"function: MsoCchSzLen"

FAULT ->308c60eb 8b10 mov edx,[eax]
ds:00000000=????????

I can print the entire Dr Watson Log for this event if that would be helpful
in solving the problem

In viewing this problem, please remember my primary concern is to get my
original NAME back as the user so I can regain access to all the stuff there.

Thanks again for your time.
