Hardware connection

Hi there all,
I've just bought a HP A6250 pc and a HP W2207H monitor 22" and I've fixed
them together, why do I need to use three connectors?. One is the old style
port connection, one is USB and the other is sound connection. Why all three?
oh and another thing when unpacking and setting up the monitor stand it was
incredibly stiff to pull the screen in to the upright position I thought at
one stage that any more force and the thing would break, but after it started
to move it SLOWLY came upright...just a warning for those who think that the
stand has been put on 90 degrees out...like I did for 10-15 minutes
 
The usb connection is for a built in usb hub. You will find either two or
four usb connectors on the back for a keyboard, mouse, printer, flash
drives, etc.

what are their functions?
 
Hi Ralph,

That's not a parallel port connector, it's an analog video connector. That
is your primary video link, the USB is either for port extentions or part of
your sound system.

The USB cable will allow the USB ports available on the monitor to function.
It has a built in hub. If you are not planning to use the hub for USB
connections, you probably don't need the cable. The sound cables connect
the built in speakers, without which they will not work. The normal
connector for the video provides the video information and cannot substitute
for the others. Without this cable, the device is either a very expensive
hub and or set of speakers, or merely a desk ornament.

Presuming you bought it as a monitor, the only cable you need is the video
cable. The others only add functionality to the unit, and can usually be
omitted if you wish.

There is no "parallel" port on a monitor. If you have a port that looks
something like that, it is a DVI port, and is an alternate way of carrying
the signals for video. If you have a DVI port on your computer, you could
use it instead of the normal video cable. You won't need two video cables -
choose whichever your computer can provide.
