I made a hardware change to a emachies computer. (it was the mother board) It
was damaged. Then when I get my computer up and running again it wants to
re-activate windows. (Which I know its normal) But what isn't normal, I
think, Microsoft won't accpt the instrallation ID. Please help. Thanks.

The rules of activation according to Microsoft says that the
product key of an OEM version of Windows XP dies with that
particularly computer. If the motherboard is not made by or
for e-Machines, then Microsoft considers the change to result
in a new computer, thereby terminating the product key for the
eMachines OEM verison of Windows XP, and which is also probably
keyed just for a specific e-Machines motherboard.

Actually, that's normal, as well, if you didn't get the replacement
motherboard from eMachines.

What happens when you try to activate via telephone?

thats not completely true. i had a 4403us destop and i used the OEM
installation CD and activation key to install windows xp on my armada
laptops. you should be able to use the oem license on any computer you want.

if you try to activate it via telephone then they just may give you a new
activation number.at one point i had to reinstall the OS on my desktop and
the oem activation key did not work anymore so i called microsoft and they
just gave me a new one. if you really can't use your activation key and
microsoft will not give you can new one, i can sell you a new one if you
would like.

Not legitimately. Read the EULA; it's quite clear. An OEM license,
once installed, is not legitimately transferable to another computer
under _any_ circumstances. (Unfortunately, however, dishonest people
often do find ways around this restriction.)

i only transfered it because the laptop was working better then the desktop
even though the laptop wasa lot older. the laptop died a few months later
due to hardware failer. in a microsoft support case i ended up getting a new
Windows XP installation CD and activation key. the desktop had so many
issues. the oem cd i had was the original version of xp home. i had to
reinstall the os on 14 times. i almost threw the pc out because of that. i
got rid of the oem cd recently because of how windows update will not
support it anymore. you can get microsoft to make wcwptions for you, of
course then thats usually when you are getting support from them and it is
not that likely that they will give you a new copy. but i was lucky. in fact
i got two copies, one home and the other pro, both have sp2 embeded.
