I was asked by one of my friends to come and look at a PC sitting in his room because it was not turning on. It was sent from Saudi Arabia from his dad. So after investigation I decided to put in one of my old power supply and low and behold it now turns on but with a beeping noise which was easily solved as the ram was not in correctly anyway now we had a problem of not getting anything on the monitor. There was a signal going to it but it was just a black screen. After some further investigation I noticed that the hard drive was set to slave when there is only one of them so I put it to master and it all worked fine.

After that he wanted it formatted and XP to be installed so I went on to the bios and changed the boot settings and I exited and saved it and now the problem of getting a blank screen is back!

I have no idea why but I don't think the computer is going to the hard drive and I don't know how to change it cos it is just goes to a blank screen.

Any ideas, is there a way to reset the bios??

Thanks

What changes did you make in the Bios?

Can you still enter the Bios?

If so, is the hard disk recognised there?

The only setting I changed was the boot priority as I needed it to check the disk before going to the hard drive.

No I cannot get into the bios it just stays on a blank screen

Something's playing up in that machine then. I'd guess when you tinkered inside you may have knocked something, probably the video card, it was probably not seated right in the first place, especially if it's had a long (bumpy) journey from Saudi.

And The RAM was poorly seated you say?

I would check all connections and seatings are good, particularly the video card, you should be able to enter the Bios with or without a hard drive.

One point ... isn't the Saudia Electricity supply a little lower than ours?

With the modern switching PSU it shouldn't be a problem ... you had already changed that I see.
