I want to upgrade an old computer to XP but I need to make more room on my C:drive. I only have about 900 megs left and XP wants to have 1.5 gigs to do the update.
I was thinking of repartitioning the C:drive with Partition Magic to make more room so that I can do the upgrade. But I get a warning from Partition Magic about going past the 1024 cylinder limit might make my drive unbootable. How can I find out whether or not this is true?
Right now Windows 98 is my operating system. It seems, from what I have already researched, that Win98 does not care about the cylinder limit. My concern is with my BIOS. Since it is an old computer, Compaq 972 CDS, will going past the cylinder limit make the drive unbootable or not.
I already have an 80-gig drive in here that I am using and that works fine, but I think I'm using it with a drive overlay program. I'm not too up on any of this stuff so if anyone can clarify it for me I would appreciate it very much. TYIA.
